However, the making of La~Di~Da Shelf bunting does not have to commence on a weekend, it can actually be made any day of the week...
to make your La~Di~Da Shelf Bunting you will need......
* Fabric scraps of your choice , I chose vintage, eidy and pretty faded florals, 3 different patterns, but all being very good friends....you could go for anything that makes you feel happy, depending upon where your shelf may be... and your style... My shelf is in my kitchen.....
Also some felt for the backing I chose this Blue.
*Some binding or ribbon
* Some Bonda web..The Truly Versatile iron-on transfere adhesive ( I am not being paid by Bonda web) (this is what it says on the packet, it was truly versatile :-) )
* Some Pinking Shears, a ruler, a pencil, some paper, cotton, a tape measure.
To begin
Measure the length of your shelf. Mine was 26 inches. Your binding will need to measure more than this to allow for ties at the ends and a slight droop...
Using paper, draw the size of triangle you require, this will be your template, the top of my triangle measured 5 cm, fold in half your paper to find the middle point and you have a triangle..
Iron your fabric choices.
Place fabric choice #1 over your felt.
Using your pinking shears and the paper triangle template cut round to make your first triangle.
So you now have one triangle sandwich with felt on the bottom and fabric on top.
Now cut some more....
My shelf being 26 inches I needed 10 triangles, this allowed for a small gap between each one.
keep snipping your fabric sandwiches until you have lots, lay them out in the squence you like, measure binding again, allowing for extra to tie and for your droop... to make sure you have it right... :-)
Step two
Take your triangle paper template and cut off the two side edges to make it slightly smaller as above.
Place on top of your Truly versatile bonda web .... and cut out as many triangles as you will need for your bunting, one for each fabric triangle you have made.
Now taking your first triangle sandwhich, seperate the felt and the fabric, on the WRONG side of the fabric, following the bonda web instructions iron on the bodaweb, for 5 seconds...
peel off paper backing, then place fabric back on top of the felt, cover with a damp cloth and iron for 5 seconds again...
and it sticks..
yes really :-)
it is very simple if you follow the steps...
So you Now have One triangle sandwhich, felt on the bottom, fabric on top, and stuck together with Truly versatile bonda web... ta da...
Now do the same until all triangles are stuck together.
Then pin your completed triangles to your binding as above.....
Select your cotton... I used the small zig zag stitch setting on my machine.... Very carefully stitch your triangles to the binding...take your time with this as it can be tricky...you can hand stitch your triangles if you would like, if you do not have a sewing machine.
When you have finished stitching, get all excited, find two pins....

ReplyDeleteSuch a fun little post ... seeing your pretty bunting makes ME smile too ;) I have just the bookshelf in my living room that I've been thinking needs 'something' and perhaps this is the ticket. Thanks Sophie (and it seems you've got a bit of happy back in your days?). Lovely weekend to you! Wendy
ReplyDeleteVery lovely, Sophie! You make it look so easy, but I know I'd end up all tangled and twisted ... Why don't you sell some in your little shop? Pleeease ... you know you want to xxx
ReplyDeleteVery pretty and delicate they made me smile.Love Jill xx
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful and neat. Bondaweb should employ you. Your shelves look great and I'm delighted to see your meat safe - I used to have one just that colour but a bit bigger (as far as I can remember, which isn't far).
ReplyDeleteVery sweet and pretty! Have a lovely weekend! xo Heather
ReplyDeleteLoving the bunting. I have a tutorial on my blog for fabric chains which I too made with a little iron on magic! Well it gives you more time to make other bits xx
ReplyDeleteThis is so dainty, I love it! I do have a pair of pinking shears but they are blunt from people (my children) cutting paper with them. Do you use anything to sharpen yours?
ReplyDeleteI didn't realise it was National Bunting Week!
ReplyDeleteI woke this morning with an irresistible urge to make 'Fun-ting'. I have been stitching it all day then I spied yours, so dainty and cute, like you? Mine are mad and bonkers... say no more. EE xx

ReplyDeleteI love the fabric and now have to have a poke about in my vintage basket for anything suitable as I feel a need for bunting too. Might have to sew and nothing else on this wet Sunday. Karen xx
